Though TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram garner a lot of screentime from folks, LinkedIn is not to be ignored in your social media strategy. 

In fact, there are over 756 million users worldwide on LinkedIn. That’s millions of people you can reach through your LinkedIn page and posts.

Of course, you aren’t going to gain millions of followers on LinkedIn overnight; you have to have a thoughtful LinkedIn strategy. 

If you want to build up your business’s social media, follow these five tips for creating a successful LinkedIn strategy. 

1. Create and Fine-Tune Your Company Page

The first step to getting established on any social media platform is to create your profile. On LinkedIn, you have to option to create a business page from your own personal LinkedIn account. More so, you can attach additional editors/social media managers to the business page if needed.

For your company page, you will need to pick out a LinkedIn profile picture, a cover image for your page, and fill out an “about” section. 

2. Define Your Audience and Be S.M.A.R.T.

Now that your page is set up, you are properly ready to jump into posting. However, take some time to think about who your audience is on LinkedIn. What kind of content do they want to see and what kind of tone should you use?

Once you have your ideal audience in mind, you need to set up goals for what you want to get out of LinkedIn. Are you trying to increase brand awareness? Are you trying to hire interns? Whatever your intention is with LinkedIn, follow the S.M.A.R.T. method when creating goals:

  • S: Specific
  • M: Measurable
  • A: Achievable
  • R: Realistic
  • T: Timely

The S.M.A.R.T. acronym will ensure that your goals are actually attainable. It helps you narrow down what your goal is, how you will measure success, and a rough timeline of when you would like to achieve the specific goal. 

3. Regularly Post Images and Video

LinkedIn a social network after all. This means you are going to have to frequently post onto your page and create content for your social media. For big companies, social media is a full-time job.

That’s why most brands hire social media managers or social media agencies to help them with the work. 

4. Be Active and Share Related Content

Not only do you need to post your own branded content, but you also need to share content and articles related to your business. 

LinkedIn is a professional networking site. When you share related articles, it shows that you are connected with your industry. Moreover, sharing this type of content is a great way to network with other business professionals.

5. Promote Your Page and Posts to Expand Your Reach

If your goal is to increase brand awareness, then you might want to consider promoting your page or your posts. By buying LinkedIn ads, they will place your page or a specific post on your target audiences’ feed, even if they were already following your page.
